#plasticfreejuly
You may have seen this hashtag floating around the gram and facebook. At Aunty Ellen we think plastic sucks - so we do things a little differently // Natural fibres (no poly) // Compostable post bags // recycled tissue paper with soy based ink among other things - you can read more about here
Here are 10 handy tips for living #plasticfree

Bamboo Toothbrush
'Australians use and dispose of over 30 million plastic toothbrushes every year' - Biome It is so easy to make the switch, once you make the switch you won't look back. Here are some places that sell them Kappi and Biome

Safety Razor
The bulk of a disposable razor is non-biodegradable, leading to billions of pieces of hazardous waste ending up in landfill every year. Unlike disposable razors, safety razors are built to last a lifetime. Aunty Ellen has just purchased a funky rose gold razor from kappi! Will let you guys know how it goes!
From reviews we have heard it takes a little bit of getting used to but after a while works like a dream.

Who Gives A Crap TP
It can be a real pain in the bum (pardon the pun) buying toilet paper and its always wrapped in unnecessary plastic. Game changer, Who Gives A Crap delivers (FREE) straight to your door (with no plastic packaging) recycled toilet paper with 50% of profits going to building toilets for the developing world. Great value at just 25¢ per 100 sheets! Good for your bum, good for the world!

KEEP CUP
There are so many funky ones out there. Aunty Ellen has three that she keeps at different locations (prepared for any coffee op). Would recommend a glass one with cork over ceramic as they tend to heat up and be a little ouchy on hands.

DIRT Laundry Detergent
We love Dirt ! Packed with organic and plant based goodies Dirt uses aluminium based packaging to cut out 90% of plastic. It is also 6c on average cheaper per load!
They have a refill return system which allows subscribing customers to send back refill bags to be reused and refilled. Just plain zero waste genious-ness!!

Produce Bag
It is super handy to purchase a bundle of mesh produce bags (some come on keyrings) and to keep these in your handbag or with your grocery bags.
If you forget to bring these along to the shops paper bags (usually for mushrooms) are a good last minute alternative.

Period undies
SERIOUSLY THE BOMB.COM
It’s time to ditch your tampons, liners, and pads and join the period undies Modibodi movement. A sustainable option for periods, these undies are great as a back up for tampons or cups, night times or for an alternative to pads.
Modibodi even have seamfree, maternity and swim option! If you are not a fan of these then try a menstrual cup.

SAY NO to plastic straws
PLASTIC STRAWS SUCK
Say no thank you to plastic straws or better yet invest in a metal reusable straw and cleaner.
Aunty Ellen has a funky retractable straw that fits in her bag - suckdifferently
Makes for a good party trick.
